THE EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL ON YOU!!!

Published by cathycouey under Alcohol Edit This

The effects that alcohol has on the body vary by how much is drunk in a night and how long the consumption rate has been going on.  For instance an occasional drinker will not suffer the same long lasting effects as the drinker who drinks 4-7 nights a week for years.  That is not to say that the occasional drinker is in no danger.  That would depend on how much is consumed each time he drinks.  For more information on short term effects click here:  Effects of alcohol .
Alcohol, specifically ethanol, is a potent drug with a range of side effects. The amount and circumstances of consumption play a large part in determining the extent of intoxication, e.g. consuming alcohol after a heavy meal is less likely to produce visible signs of intoxication than consumption on an empty stomach. Hydration also plays a role, especially in determining the extent of hangovers.

What we want to concern our selves with briefly is the long term effects on the body of the habitual drinker.  Some of us know that long term use can lead to liver failure as well as heart, digestive, and nervous system disorders.  There is so much information available on each of these plus other problems and effects that I have decided to give you a short list of links so you can do your own research.

Long-term effects of alcohol

Alcohol and cardiovascular disease

Alcoholic liver disease

Alcoholic hepatitis

Alcohol and cancer

Alcohol and weight

Fetal alcohol syndrome

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder

Alcoholism

Blackout (alcohol-related amnesia)

Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome

All of these links lead to Wikipedia the online encyclopedia.  Alcohol also causes relationship and psychological problems.  If you have been drinking for awhile you may not even notice how your relationships have changed but they do.

I truly recommend that you read Bill’s story in the AA Big Book.  Here is a link to the online version:  Big Book Online Fourth Edition.  There are many other stories plus a lot of information concerning alcoholism in this book.

In conclusion I am not able to tell you all of the adverse effects brought on by extended alcohol use in the space I have here.  So that is why I have included so many links.  I have done my best to get as much information as possible on short notice into one place.  I say short notice because this article was done upon request.  We will look more into this later in the week because I do feel that this is important as well as the effects that a variety of other drugs cause.
